- mpierceExplorer"Arch is correct----I am 72ft and have been coast to coast but mostly in the East and have never been questioned about length. Here in NC the over all length is 90ft. "
In this discussion of RV lengths, this is what you posted.
RV length for NC is 45', as I above posted.
Your reference is: (n) Vehicle combinations used in connection with motorsports competition events that include a cab or other motorized vehicle unit with living quarters, and an attached enclosed specialty trailer, the combination of which does not exceed 90 feet in length, may be operated on the highways of this State, provided that such operation takes place for one or more of the following purposes:
So, without stating what you have, in a general RV question about allowable RV lengths, you post a length that ONLY applies to motorsports competetors, with sleeping quarters and pulling a trailer with a race car in it. Quite misleading and inaccurate answer to those wanting to know how long their RV can be!
Why did you not state what speciality vehicle, with a specific exemption from general length laws, in your answer? - mpierceExplorerNC 20-116-c-3
(3) Recreationalvehicles shall not exceed 45 feet in length overall, excluding bumpers andmirrors.
From NC website: http://www.laws9.com/statutes/north-carolina/Chapter_20/GS_20-116
This is what I find. May or not be correct. I cannot find 90' length for RV.
This is just for the vehicle, not overall. - ferndaleflyerExplorer IIINC Code 20-116 (N) States 90ft in NC for my combination---the copy I have is dated 10/17/2011----There you go mpierce. The on for MD is also incorrect. It was raised when I lived there more than 15 years ago-----bunch of bad data on those charts.
- toolttimeExplorerI have never seen any RV ever pulled over and being measured. I think the law has more important things to do.
- Kayteg1Explorer IIWe have millions of drivers driving slowly on fast lanes and nobody stops them from continuing, so why would the Police worry about couple extra feet of length, unless they want to pull you over for other reasons?
But have a backup plan. If your extra length is a toad and you have 2nd driver, that pose no problem. But if they make you disconnect trailer at check point (scales) that might cost you some serious trip interruptions. - mpierceExplorer

Chart shows 45' for MH, and 65' for two vehicle combo. Where do you come up with the 90'? - wolfe10ExplorerActually TWO issues here:
Will I be stopped if over-length?
What happens if I am in an accident with an illegally long vehicle?
The two are not necessarily related! - ferndaleflyerExplorer IIIArch is correct----I am 72ft and have been coast to coast but mostly in the East and have never been questioned about length. Here in NC the over all length is 90ft.
- ArchHoaglandExplorerHas anybody on here ever been stopped, or know of some stopped, for being over length.?
I see coaches with trailers that have to be over length many times a year and I've never heard of anybody being stopped for it. - 2gypsies1Explorer III
