- Stars101ExplorerThese are not "microfiber", but an Ultra Fast Dry Towel by
Discovery Trekking Outfitters.
We have them for our TC b/c they take up no room and dry quick, quick. Plus they don't smell musty after a trip of just using & air drying for 2 weeks.
I love the feel, but they are THIN (like a soft comfy T-shirt) And you think, "No way will THIS thing work". But it does. I learned to love it after 2-3 uses. They work great as a "turban" for long thick hair after a shower. My extra large one doubles as a bath sheet, sarong for the pool and even has been used as a blanket on the beach. Awesome space saver.
Buy one and try it. They have a "seconds" sale area on their website. - moonlightrunnerExplorerHow about synthetic chamois?
I used one called The Absorber (27X17) for many years as a towel to set my freshly washed dishes on. It absorbed any water that dripped off the plates. I never used it as a bath towel. I would think it would leave you slightly damp, based on my use of that particular one. Based on what I have seen, 27X17 seems to be the standard size. I have yet to see one larger but I also haven't looked. I prefer big, thick cotton bath sheets (40X70). - Caveman_CharlieExplorer IIThe ones I have work good for things like dusting. They do not absorb moister very well at all. They have there place but, doing dishes is not one of them.
- down_homeExplorer IIWe have a lot of them. use them on glass or just about anything. The newer ones from everyplace are not as good. They are cheapening them a lot.
I use them to take off wax and to polish. Nothing better. - campn4walleyeExplorerWe use a large one to dry our wet bath in our TC. It works perfectly. It also dries quickly.
The only other time we use them is to dry vehicles after washing or cleaning household items. - AndymonExplorer

FINALLY!!!
Somebody with the same reason for not liking them. Nobody gets it when I tell them I can't stand to touch them.

X2. I can't stand them. Mainly because it seems they just don't absorb moisture. We buy a big bag of terry hand towels at Costco for around $30 or so. I think there's like, 60 towels in the bag. I take most of them to my shop, leave a few in the TT and a few at home. - clikrf8ExplorerWe use them in our pop up truck camper as space savers. Not as good as regular cotton towels for absorbency but they do the job. They dry fast, also.

I recommend not using fabric softener on towels or wash cloths. Yes they are softer, but fabric softener kills their absorbency. Ever wonder why your towels don't absorb water as well as they did when they were new?
We have not used fabric softener (including dryer sheets) since the second I heard they had been implicated in pancreatic cancer.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fabric_softener:
Fabric softeners contain chemicals that impregnate fabric and are released over time. These chemicals may come in direct contact with the skin and may be absorbed or inhaled. Certain ingredients release formaldehyde, which has been linked to cancer in laboratory tests.[6] Among other softener components are benzyl acetate (linked to pancreatic cancer), benzyl alcohol (an upper respiratory tract irritant), and chloroform (a neurotoxin and carcinogen).[7] Some chemicals are neurostimulants or irritators and may be linked to central nervous system toxin exposure symptoms like headaches, disorientation, mood swings, numbness in face or extremities, memory loss, or irritability.
There are many more sources if you just google "fabric softener pancreatic cancer."
There are also a number of alternatives, such as baking soda in the wash water.
When I was growing up, all towels were dried on a clothesline, and nobody thought twice about their not being "soft." Fabric softeners are one of many solutions without a problem that cause health problems for every one of us.
(Stopping rant now.) - tvman44ExplorerBut they are great for cleaning my glasses. :)

I bought all new for the TT, 8 of everything..."Hubby Hates" the feel, they went to thrift store!
I use the cloths for windows. I have one for cleaning, just with water and one for drying. Absolutely no streaks.
