Microwave

We are camping this week-end, and yesterday when I went to use the microwave, it made a scary noise and died. It is almost the end of the camping season for us, so my husband is thinking that later this month, he will pull the microwave, see how it is set up, and go about installing another one.

My question-do we need a special rv microwave or will any microwave do?

Any other advice to us about this job?

Thank you.

  • The only thing special about the RV Microwave is the Mounting Bracket and exhaust duct ...modification..!

The problem that I see is finding the same Model or a newer model of some of the Oddball Brands.

Major Brands such as Sharp ,GE Etc. have really just improved their units over the Years, so it is relatively easy to source a replacement.
  • Link for the microwave that came with our new Minnie:

Our trailer is new, so I can't really tell you anything about this Advent microwave. We're headed out for a shakedown cruise on Tuesday, and after that, I can tell you my impressions of the Advent, and whether it's worth spending more money to buy this for a RV replacement unit.

Panasonic alternative (not specifically for rv)

If you install a non RV unit, you may have to do a little trim work to get it to fit properly. So, the decision to go this route may depend on your DIY skills.
  • There's been some posts re microwaves, and people have replaced their microwaves with standard "home use" microwaves without any problem. I would probably try to go that way since microwaves are so cheap. Just a suggestion...I bought a Panasonic microwave for use in our cottage and it was a heck of a microwave. Panasonic uses a special magnatron that enables it to run continuously with out the normal on off on off cycle typically found in microwaves. As a result, the defrost cycle was better than I've seen in any other microwave.
