Microwave

I never thought about keeping the microwave out of the cabinet. But, since we have a dedicated cabinet, still leaning towards a built in replacement.

my last TT put in a WalMart replacement, and did the same as Rockhillmanor, except it only dented the floor. Microwave still worked. Rather than fight how to get bracket to secure it, I just sat it in the floor with a towel between it and cabinet when traveling. Didn't take but a minute or two to pick up and sit in the cabinet opening. Worked fine for a $50 microwave.

It is possible to repair them also. I've done it. Involved replacing the magnetron and I did it before the era of $30 Walmart nukes, but sometimes I just tire of throwing stuff away.

Okay, I am thinking I am glad we are at the end of the camping season. This gives me some time to look into this. A "regular" microwave would certainly be easier and less expensive to get, but, I don't want this project to turn into a headache for my husband either, and I want to make sure the microwave is able to stay secure.

There is more than $120 difference in price between Camping world and Wal Mart. For that difference I might look a bit longer at how I could make the Wally one fit.

All the small camping stores in your town and all the RV dealerships that have a supply store carry them also. Cheaper than ordering them from a catalog. From experience....I would definitely buy an RV replacement micro less headaches and work.

Venting and securing is the problem.

Most box store micro's vent on the side. You need one that vents from the top. Hard to find unless you buy a residential built in type. And they are costly.

I bought a smaller micro than the original RV micro opening that vented on the side hoping it would allow enough room to vent and it was not enough room to vent properly. The inside would steam up.

I bought a smaller one to replace the RV one and when I went to leave I pushed it all the way back in the original micro opening believing it would stay there because it was so much smaller and there was this brace across the bottom from the original one......

OH how wrong could I have been!!

I was leaving a sporting event on dirt ground and the first turn I made it came out of that opening, flew over the brace and hit the stove on the way down and broke the oven knob off and crashed onto the floor in a million pieces. It sounded like a bomb had gone off.

I pulled over not knowing what had happened until I got around to the door and opened it. 2 squads pulled up right away too as they heard the sound. What a mess. :R

I replace our "RV" microwave with a "home" microwave. I had to make some very minor mods to the microwave case in order to install the flange that held it into the cabinet. It took me about 20 minutes to install.

Get good measurements and any brand will work as long as it will fit the opening. I have also had very good luck with Panasonic brand over the years. Randu
