Mildew/mold on ceiling

Hi all, need some assistance! We are currently in the Pacific Northwest and have had ALOT of rain. Looks like we have developed a couple areas of leaking on our roof. There are a couple of areas that have developed mildew on the ceiling, like almost over night. What is the best way to stop the growth and clean the dark spots off of a fabric ceiling, after the roof is sealed of course. I am a little concerned with using bleach, not sure the fabric will hold up.

  • You need to fix the leaks asap. I would buy a dehumidifier or buy a few boxes of Damp Rid. Small fan blowing helps mildew hates moving air.
  • If the ceiling is covered with that kind of carpet type fabric.

I have had great luck with Folex,on my ceilings just spray it on and BLOT don't rub,you will be amazed at how it lifts out the stains.

It may take more than one application but it took out all of my stains.

You can get it at most big box home improvement stores or Amazon check out the reviews and pictures.
  • Thank you for the suggestions, I will give this a try. Hopefully I can head off major damage. :)
  • Appearing that quickly it may well be water stain rather than mold of mildew. But either way, it may be impossible to get the discoloration out in place without causing further discoloration due to the effort.
  • Spray the area with undiluted hydrogen peroxide or white vinegar to kill the mold.
