- LynnmorExplorerDid you ever just cruise up the right lane with the cruise control on and come up behind a slower vehicle, swing out to pass only to have that sucker attain your speed and hold you out there? I have it happen frequently and it is wonderful that now I can be fined for minding my own business.
- NCC-1701ExplorerLeft lane driving is extremely common and somewhat annoying. But, I'd rather they put about a $1000 fine on the huge percentage of the population that doesn't seem to know that when they come down an entrance ramp they are supposed to actually look and time themselves in instead of blindly coming down the ramp and assuming everyone can or should get out of their way. A number of times I've had drivers somehow not see my 40' motorhome and almost pull off the ramp right into me and I couldn't get over because of traffic on the other side of me. :M
- I hate to say this but.... It is the same in every state ! I drove 320 miles today from VA up to PA, and if it wasn’t for the left lane huggers, traffic would be smooth...take notice next time, I bet MOST will have a phone in hand....

MI has been enforcing this for a year or so. About time, too. They have also cracked down on the clowns who wait until the last minute to merge when there's a lane closure.
Now if they will just go after the speed governed semis taking five minutes passing each other...
Must be a different Minnesota than the one I live in
I believe Minnesota is MN not MI - that's Michigan. :B - rr2254545Explorer

IMHO the most egregious offenders are semis who hang in the left lane exactly beside another truck, because neither one of them is willing to slow down 1 mph. I'm sure the trucking industry lobbies spend a lot of time and money trying to influence passage and enforcement of such laws.

I just came back from a 500 mile drive through a lot of Minnesota on I-35. The Minnesota drivers are horrible about driving in the left lane. There's one car doing 1 mph faster than the car in the right lane, and everyone just lines up behind them. Then that car finally passes the car in the right lane, but does he move over? NNNNNOOOOOOO! There he sits, because maybe there's another car farther down the road that he may have to pass. Awful, awful, awful.
That's probably why they are passing the law. Although, in the article it does state that it is partly a matter of Law Enforcement. There are some laws dealing with this already but, they are not enforced very well.
so what do the politicians...pass more laws! idiotic. - mike-sExplorer?? They don't need a new law, they already have a "keep to the right" law in place.
