I didn’t like tattle tales as a kid, I didn’t bring my kids up to be tattle tales, but adult tattle tales take the cake and I guess it makes them feel powerful or useful…
Lemme guess... yer kid came home with a black eye, y'all took him out in the backyard, taught him a few moves, and sent him back to "fight like a man"- is that about right?
The funny thing is, it's been my observation at this site that some of the most frequent report-to-Moderators are just such bullyboys. Too often, the type is only there to land blows/make points, and if/when a victim doesn't back down or, worse, lands one on the bully's chin, they go cryin' to the Moderator and...poof!
And as for "whiners/crybabies": seems to me that this very threadtopic is a perfect example of such behavior. How else can one characterize the rather shrill complaining about a system that evidently frustrates some primal need?
Take a step back and look at it from the point of view of many ordinary folks following one thread or another. "Passing on by" is a ridiculous suggestion when a member is following a topic in hopes of getting something useful out of it. And in many cases, that includes the Original Poster, whose simple question too often results in a barrage of irrelevant score-seeking by True Believers of one stripe or another.
In those cases, I'd think that "report to Moderator" is less "tattling" than it is getting the Principal to separate the playground combatants that won't let go of each other's hair.
So, the takeaway we should all have from your post is that when a member does't like what others are saying for, whatever reason, having it closed as opposed to letting others keep going is the way to go. Hmmmm...interesting philosophy.
