First there is not freedom of speech here, it is moderated speech… there are no individual rights to the forums, its privately owned and operated and they make the rules…
Sure everyone has the right to hit the button… but why would someone do it with the purpose of shutting a thread down, they are not locked in the thread needing rescued… if one wants to be a mod apply to be one… I’ll bet at least one of those guys would be willing to share their salary with you… :B
One thing we agree on is I support you right to respond how ever you see fit, to equate this to nothing more than a crybaby thread, I even respect you for saying it… but I would never try to get the thread closed because I don’t agree with your response…
I do think it is more involved when threads are shut down. I saw threads closed but couldn't understand why. Duh, of course. the mods deleted some posts, changed things, and closed it. I will never understand why it was closed cause things disappeared. simple as that.
I am sure people hit the report button because something was posted, inappropriate to some level and maybe offensive to them. Mods do their thing. If closed you might wonder why? geez, those nasty posts are gone so how can one see what truly happened. If the whole thread gets deleted into oblivion then it is just over.
I hit the report button just one time on this forum. One poster was chatting about something, another came on a did a personal attack straight on that person. when I read that it made my skin crawl that such nasty junk was posted for such a small reason. (just a disagreement in the thread). I hit report and said that this fool needs to be shut down. WELL, results were thread closed, his post was deleted and you would never know why if you didn't read the flaming post. I never asked the mods anything about it but I hope they sent Mr. X a nice note saying shut up :) and I hope others hit report on that post also. I would hate to think I would be the only one who would take offense to people directly slamming others.
Was I a crybaby for reporting a person who took it upon themselves to slam another full force on a public forum for such a small disagreement in that thread?
I don't think I was but hey, you could have another opinion. :)
Plus remember you are giving the report button way too much power. One might click it but in the end the MODS make all decisions. It is their call and they make the one they deem appropriate.
People can crybaby to the mods all they want. In the end it is the MODS who have the power.
