Bottled water has created enormous profits for the bottling companies and that's all they care about.
The manufacturing process of the bottles takes 3-5 gallons of water to produce 1 gallon of bottled water. For every gallon of bottled water that is consumed, about 25% of that amount in crude oil was used in the manufacturing process and more is used in transporting the product to stores. Only around 1/3 of the bottles get recycled. Bottle tops are not recyclable.
The sad part about bottled water is where a lot of the empty bottles end up, along with other plastic bottles and containers - huge floating islands in the ocean, washed up on beaches, in landfills and even Mt. Everest. The plastic has a devastating impact on wildlife and marine life and kills many millions a year.
Bottled water is really bad for the environment and there is no evidence that shows bottled water is healthier and safer.
