We are full-timers and drink from the coach's tank exclusively. There's a filter at the inlet and one on the refrigerator. Tastes fine to me and my family. When we hike, we fill reusable aluminum or plastic bottles and take them with us. When we are done hiking, we wash out the bottles and put them away until next time.
If I see a public water fountain, I won't hesitate to drink from it.
I noticed that the water was a bit hard out west and have since purchased a water softener but since we've been back east, I haven't had a chance to use it yet.
We also have a farm with well water and it's the best water I've ever had.
I avoid bottled water at every chance I get. I think it's a waste of money and harmful to the environment if used on a regular basis. Now, I have been caught out without water and have had to purchase it before, but it's not my preference and I wouldn't set out to do so.
