More stickies to help newbies

So I've been on the forum for a few months or more counting lurking and like many forums, there is the crowd that immediately assaults a new member for not using the search feature. Sometimes, search would have helped and as a veteran of other forums, I know search is the fastest way to some answers. Not all noobs are familiar with forums. Other times, the question is a nuanced on and worthy of a new post.

I've noticed that there are certain questions that pop up regularly. Where to camp for Yellowstone, Niagara Falls, and Yosemite seem to be weekly occurances. Why not make a sticky for those? Can't sticky everything but there are certain destinations or topics that rate it. The owners of prior Rental RVs is another worth pinning to the top.

Seems FAQ for Class A and Class C are mostly posts from a decade ago as well. Some content is still applicable but some isn't.

To save work on mods, a thread could be started for suggested threads to be pinned so mods are just reviewing and deciding if its worthy rather than searching content.

Last item, the video of a Class A blowout was posted again today. I say no harm no foul but these type things could be addressed by temporary pins. A college sports forum I'm on temporarily pins threads of high interest to keep from having mulitiple threads on a topic but once that news item is old, unpin and let it naturally migrate down.

Just a few thoughts. . .

    Just because I found AN ANSWER to my question by searching, it doesn't me that it is THE ANSWER, or that opinions gathered fit my situation.

    Good grief - if you don't want to answer a question you feel has been asked dozens of times, simply don't answer. Its a forum right?

    Better yet, do the search yourself and provide the links you feel are pertinent.

    What makes any group like this worth coming back to is hearing NEW peoples ideas and problems and the solutions offered.

    Part of what I'm proposing is in line with you - the FAQ stickies are so old a lot of the info is out of date. Not all but some.

    I also agree the search feature can be a pain. I like search because if I want general info, why post and wait three days for an answer? it's just practical.

    But, I get frustrated at the "don't you see the search button" crowd and that's an internet forum issue, not an RV Net issue. and, while I'm new to this forum, I've been on internet forums since 1998 so well familiar with general issues, etiquette,etc. Some have a better community feel than others.

    One reason I like a stickie for top destinations like Yellowstone is you can get a better consolidation of information including trip reports. Something like the recent RV blowouts/fires, pin it for a week then let it die. Just suggestions.

    Taken to the extreme, yes, but in reality, there are always questions and opinions that are needed, like, how's my solar setup? And in reality, there's no way 'everybody' will be searching, so I don't think the forum is in any danger. It's just another tool to find stuff.

    There a post sitting right now in Class A asking about camping in Apostle Islands. Not real difficult to search that.

    OK, maybe I'll rephrase part of it. I think stickies for top destinations is just practical and helpful for all members. So is pinning a new event like an RV fire so it's easy to see it's been posted in the last couple weeks.

    Taken to the extreme, the "just search" mentality could be used to send us all to google and close down the forum because there's nothing new under the sun. Personally, I like the potential of community from a message board.

    The NOOBS should be reading the the rules and regs and TRYING to help themselves in stead of just posting and letting others do the work for them.
    Those who just come on and miss-post in the wrong forum or ask a question that has been answered a million times are just being lazy.
    First they could have Googled the question and gotten hits, searched here and gotten hits.
    Those who just post a question without doing any research first tend to disappear as soon as they have the answer they need and never become part of the community.

    I have no sympathy for those who do not try to help themselves

    I used to go to google and search rv.net followed by my question, and found a lot of what i was looking for.
