Thermacells are very effective, but the pesticide they emit, allethrin, is toxic to cats. So if you camp with kitty, you might not want to use it.

You can't control them.
A smoky fire helps.
The only solution for serious mosquitoes is a head net, long sleeves, long pants, and DEET on everything.

I dislike chemicals and what it can mean in a body so....

Here is a natural mix that we use and it works well. A sealer jar with Apple Cider vinegar..and a handful of parsley. Break up the parsley...stuff it in the jat with the vinegar and into the fridge for 24 hours. I use a personal spray bottle...works really wlel. Yes, there is taste on the lips and an odour..for about a minute.Once it dries...no left over smell or taste.

As far as inside an RV? Get the mosquito screens from Home Depot and the like...smaller mesh. Easy to switch out.

They bother my wife more than me, so she takes the box fan, turns it on facing her on either medium or high and it works. ( Never leaves home without it). Stays in the T.T. all the time. :B

I use a combination of stuff. (If they are bad, none of it will work.) I use a DEET spray on myself. I like the stuff labeled DRY the best. It makes you feel less slimey. I carry a propane powered insect fogger. But, some places you camp may frown on those. You basically have to gas out the whole campground to make them work. I carry several cans of Yard Guard. A Themacell helps too. I don't know if the Citronella candles help but, I try everything. And finally, if I am camping with electricity then I use a box fan blowing on where I'm setting to keep them away.
