Yes, the first hatching of skeeters is extreme this year thanks to the very heavy monsoon type rains we've had in the state in April which created so much standing water which are the breeding grounds for mosquitos. Heavy rains and/or lots of standing gorund water is far from normal in our state.
Once this first hatching dies off and if staying normal with precipitation, the second hatching about Memorial Day will be much much smaller. Going to keep bug repellent close by until then. Our electronic bug zapper has been singing and sounding almost constantly for a week now but it is starting to slow down now.
Heck the last 4-5 years we'd hardly seen any skeeters in our area of Michigan or up north and the U.P. either. Never used any bug repellent once as it was not needed and we're outside most of the time all 7 days of the week as we're retired.
Guess you'll just have to be patient and hope for continued dry normal weather for a while or cover as much of you as you can and repellent treat the rest so the hungry blood suckers don't enjoy you as "dinner".
