My work involves many older people. And I am no sping chicken myself. But This I know from them and from me. That old easy chair is a very powerfull thing.
It is so easy just to sit down in it and never get up. As we age we become more fearfull and have less energy.
The stories we tell ourselves about why we can not do things are pretty amazing. Gas is to high, it might rain, bad guys might get us, the rig might break, we might not find a camp site and on and on.
But most of the time that is all they are, stories, to justify why we don't want to do something. The real reason is fear and that it involves work to get ready and go.
The problem is, if we curl up on the couch, all we do is get more fearfull.
At least for me, and I can not speak for anyone else, it is extremely important for the DW and I to stay active and engaged. Not doing so leads to a negative attitude, and even more lack of enery and more fear. And poor health. I see this everyday in the older folks I work with, and with myself
