motorhome title

How long should it take to get a title for motorhome purchased from an out of state dealer?
  • Depends on where you are buying and where you are titling the vehicle. It also depends on whether the vehicle is new or used, and whether it has a title in the place where you bought it.

I had the old title in my hand the day I chose to buy my last vehicle, and made my title application the next day when I had proof of insurance. I've also had to wait up to two months for paperwork in another state to clear, before I could get a title in my own state. That one involved paying off a lien to get the title from the lien holder (my own state does not do it that way).

Once the application is sent in, here I usually get an new title in less than a week, as soon as my excise tax check clears. I've bought in another state where a vehicle does not leave the dealer without at least a temporary title.

Are you asking how long to get an old title on a used vehicle, or how long to process a title transfer or a new title? For a used vehicle, that is two different steps, and the time it takes depends on the procedures used by each state involved.

I just received a title for a vehicle and they quoted 4 to 6 weeks and it arrived in 4. Out of State should take 6 to 8 weeks, unless you financed it and you won't receive a title. The bank or lending institution will receive it and hold it until loan is paid off.

That is not true, some states are title holding states and some are not. Some states the owner will receive his title but it will just show a lien on it to protect the lien holder.

  • Several years ago we purchased a truck camper from a dealer in Indiana (to be titled in our home state of MO) Dealer said 6 to 8 weeks for the title. We got it in 7.
  • Can you narrow down the state?
    New or used unit?
    Did you finance or not?

All these things can make a difference
