This has been interesting.
I still stand by my original assertion to be honest but sell it to the first person who shows up with cash.
With one person four hours away and one person an hour away, tell them both what's up and give the one guy a chance to leave home three hours earlier to level the playing field.
This reminds me of the most recent dog that we adopted (not the same as an RV, but a similar transaction). We had been looking for a Golden Retriever for months and were having trouble finding one from a private party instead of a breeder. I was working from home that day and my wife texted me she found one and asked if I could go take a look. She usually says "go swing by and see"...It should have been a red flag to me that she said "go take a look". She texted me the address and it was three hours away. Yikes.
I texted the woman with the dog and she told me someone else was interested. I told her how far away I was, and she basically told me I'd better hurry.
I jumped on the road around 2:30 and then traffic started to get bad. My three hour drive eventually turned into a five hour drive with traffic. I kept texting the woman updates and she just said "the dog is still here".
By the time I got there, I had already told myself that something would have to be seriously wrong with the dog for me to turn around empty handed. I don't think there was ever "somebody else" though. I think I was getting jobbed.
The dog turned out to be amazing. She was a little nervous about jumping up into my truck, but we had a long ride home to bond together and she was my pal by the time we got home.
My point in all of this is that I think it's crucial to be open and honest on your end whether you're the buyer or the seller, but to also assume that the other party is either flaky or dishonest and protect yourself. Don't lie to the buyer like this lady with the dog did, but don't turn away good money on the slim chance that some other guy who said they wanted to take a look either never shows up or falls through when they get there. Do the deal when you can and be fair with the other person. That's all you can do.

First one to show up with green money gets the title.
