This reminds me of an experience I had 30 yrs ago. I was very interested in a car about 900 mi away. Of course this was before the internet so all correspondence with the seller was by ph. The agreement was that I would be there on Sunday afternoon right after he got home from church. I called from a motel on Sat night to let him know where I was and that I would be there the next day when he got home. I was told he had another guy coming and whoever got there first with the money was the buyer. I told him I thought we had an agreement that he would wait for me to get there when it was a 2 day drive and that I wasn't going race someone there nor go any further. I left the next day in another direction and found a different car that I still have.
