My lawn looks terrible!

old idaho guy, have to agree. More important things to do than baby a lawn. Yep, take care of the rig and get it on the road OFTEN.

We built our house in the woods and I wanted to have some lawn. It was tough to grow a nice lawn in a shaded wooded lot. I let it go natural with perennials , hardy flowering bushes and trees, natural wild blueberry bushes and natural woodland flowers like lady slippers. Now no up keep and I can RV. No lawn to mow!

We took a three-week trip starting the first of May and hired some folks to mow the lawn twice while we were gone. Didn't have the sprinkler system turned on and came home to a ton of weeds in the rock borders and a number of dandelions, but the lawn was mowed and didn't look bad. DW asked me to turn on the sprinkler system for the drips so did that, went to the nursery for plants, helped plant stuff, mostly her planting flowers and me doing the garden stuff in the dirt. So, had to turn on the whole system. Spent a good part of yesterday messing around and mowing the lawn, her pulling weeds, etc. and this morning the lawn looks great. We are retired, but don't take long, extended trips, usually a week at a time to fish so there is plenty of time to take care of the yard. However, if I were to leave for an extended time, you can bet someone would be here taking care of the yard. However, our playground is only about three hours away, Grand Teton National and Yellowstone National Parks, that we don't need to stay away from home a long time, just enough to get homesick. Love being retired and doing what I want when I want without worrying about an alarm clock telling me I have to get up and go somewhere.

When we went west in 2012 for 4 months I hired some guys to take care of the lawn, the shrubs, the weeds, everything. I was so pleased at what we had when I got back I kept them on. And DW never complains!!

That's the worst part about coming home from a long trip. The yard is a mess and the camper is full of dirty laundry. But oh! The memories!!!!!!

We are in Mountain Home. We just got back from the featherville area today. Weather was beautiful. We spend a lot of time north of Sun Valley also!

If I could pave the whole 2 acres, I could trade my lawn tractor for a go cart!:)

We live back in the woods and accept the grass along the driveway no one can see the lawn unless they drive down 500 feet of drive. With woods all around what yard we have and I don't like lawn work I have let it go as natural as possible. This time of year I only spot mowing as needed because most of the yard has wildflowers blooming, moss, with a few ferns and other interesting things growing in the yard. I take maybe 10 minutes once or twice in May then expand to more of the yard as the blossoms die back. By July I'm up to 40 minutes of mowing every 2 or 3 weeks. I often skip August if it is a dry year. My neighbors mow once or more a week, I brag that I only used 3-4 gallons of gas for the whole season. I mow on the highest setting and if the mower can get through it can probably go another week :-)

Sounds like a good reason to me. I'm all for rock-scaped yards myself. Tell her you need one of those zen Japanese rock gardens. If you're gone a couple of weeks you won't have to hire someone to water and cut the grass.
