Shopping numbers as others said is the way to go, but the deck is stacked against you. Rates are set by area and claim statistics in that area. Rates are then clouded by "discounts" to make it look good. All these companies know what the other guy is charging you and they adjust accordingly to get you onboard.
My insurance jumped 60% due to an at fault accident and despite having "accident forgiveness". The "rate" however, did not increase according to them. I lost the safe driver and accident free discounts. The rate remained the same. Once that accident info is listed at such places as Lexis Nexis, it's availible to all of them, as is everything about you.
I have received 20 or more quotes since the increase, both online and through agents and brokers, and all are within $50 or so of each other.......a racket to say the least.
