I would like others that have had problems with getting them to stop to post their experience here so that I can forward that to the attorney general's office.
The "others" are chiming in right and left, huh!
Observations:
The Do Not Call List is a joke!..:R
The boat horn, whistles, etc. will only affect *you*..:S
(The telemarketers are well aware of them - and easily avoided)
The AG (for any state) "might" address the problem - when they get to it, if ever.
(Very doubtful - *years* for results if they do).
Sooooo - now that they have your home/work (or "real") number..:(
Use your answering machine (as below) answering on two rings to screen your calls.
Ask callers to leave their name and number and you will call them back.
Sellers: For Craigslist sales (etc.) *NEVER* use your home phone number!
Why?
It's a given - You *will* get "junk" calls!..:(
You will/may get junk calls and *legitimate* calls at *anytime* day or night..:(
(Advertising with hours to call doesn't work - gotta call NOW!!)
BTW: E-mail listing/s result in MEGA junk and lots more screening chores!
How to avoid that?..:?
Use a voice mail (only) service. The one I use cost $8. per month, 3 month minimum. Callers are instructed to leave their name and number, I will return calls in the order received.
Easy to screen out the junk before doing that.
Outgoing message also says when/if the item is sold, the message will change to indicate same.
Returning calls:
Use a "disposable type" cell phone - such as TracFone. *DO NOT* return calls with your home phone or "regular" cell phone! (Recipient now has your home number).
Add minutes to the TrcFone as needed - or a "one year" plan equates to $8. per month (Mine rides in the glove box of my pickup -turned off- avail for "as needed" use).
When/if you determine a caller is "legit", then, and only then do they get your cell/home phone number.
How successful?
I recently sold a small TT on CraigsList. Listed ad late in the evening. When I started returning calls at 5PM the following day, I had over 50 calls (a few were repeat callers - thinking they would get a real person).
Sold to the guy who left the first message - which was at 2:30 AM..:R
He showed up at 9PM -with cash- less than 24 hours after posting the ad...:C
