I still don't get it. Someone please explain to me the almost O/C need to answer a phone, when doing so will frequently lead (more and more from what I read) to frustration and threads such as these. Why can you NOT answer a phone and instead let it go to voicemail or answering machine?
Unless I've been expecting a call within the next 5 minutes, I have not answered a phone in the last 16 years.
Finally out of four pages of utter non-sense comes a breath of fresh air!
It is called SCREENING YOUR CALLS, phone rings, caller ID pops up a number, if I don't recognize the number I let it go to the answering machine.. REAL people who really want to talk to me WILL leave a message, robo callers and scammers do not typically leave messages..
While I am screening the call if it is someone interested in something I placed on CL I have the option of picking up the call.
For those who slyly pointed out things with "blocking" a caller number, well not EVERYONE has a "smart phone".. Not EVERYONE has the "option" of blocking..
Scammers and spammers also have weapons against blocking, they SPOOF phone numbers.. Now days with the advances in VoIP phones they can EDIT the numbers that show up on caller id.. They CAN and DO spoof phone numbers.. I had one that even showed up with MY OWN WIRED HOME NUMBER (yeah imagine my own phone calling it's self).. Blocking the number is minimally effective.
Best bet is to screen the calls, ignore the spammers.
