Even at $5-$7 per month that is peanuts for a USEFUL “tool”.
In the big picture of life $7 is a cheese burger, large fry and large drink at McD once a month, or one loaded fancy coffee drink from Starbucks once a month, or about 3 gallons of gas at $2.30 per gallon, or one case of name brand soft drinks, or one small box of name brand cold morning cereal, or one ¾ lb cut of ribeye steak, or 1.5 lb of ground burger..
or .07 (seven one hundredths) or .7% if you like (which is LESS than 1%) of a $100 average monthly phone bill.
You get the picture?
I am very sure most people could find a way to pay even $7 per month for such a useful tool like caller id..
My family makes use of it, once you have it you cannot imagine life without knowing who is calling before you pick up the phone..
It is an amazing piece of technology, when I look back 50 years ago, my parents had a “party line”, we “shared” one phone line with three of our neighbors. Had to pick up the phone and listen for dial tone before dialing out (old fashion rotary dial to boot).. My parents nearly had a bird in the late 1970’s when the phone company started phasing out party lines.. The base cost of a private line was about $10 per month more.. My parents survived paying the extra $10 per month for a private line..
You could even dump your landline and get a tracphone or even a regular cell plan.. caller id COMES with cell phones automatically.
So, you would rather “save” $7 per month and put up with spammer and scammer phone calls?
Instead you are pinning your "hopes" that a "cooked up" idea by the government (Do Not Call List) will do it for free..
That’s foolish..
DNC simply does not work with spammers and scammers, it only helps to curb LEGIT REAL BUSINESSES from calling you.. Spammers and scammers LAUGH at that list, there is no teeth in it when they are originating calls outside the US..
Caller id puts YOU into control of YOUR phone instead of the CALLER controlling your phone.
You can get a Call blocker for your land line which uses the caller id data to block out numbers on your list, can be very effective but they do have some “limitations”.
AMAZON SEARCH FOR CALL BLOCKERS
Answering a spammer call only encourages them to call you more, not answering them discourages them, time is money to them. Human answered calls allows the spammers to build a list of ACTIVE GOOD PHONE NUMBERS. They will then “share” your number by SELLING that active number list..
Works the same way with snail mail, respond to ONE snail mail survey and you will have lots of paper mail to line a lot of bird cages.. Quit responding to snail mail surveys and they will eventually lose interest in your address..
Having a phone now days without caller id is a lot like driving a vehicle on a four lane highway at 75 mph BLIND FOLDED.
