Need advice: 2001 Ford Focus

I want to tow a 2001 Ford Focus with a Class C 26foot motorhome, but am not sure where to begin with what I need to do to my car. I've heard of problems with the transmission getting messed up, etc. And have searched online for answers, but can't seem to come across any.

Thanks in advance for any help.

  • We towed a 2000 Ford Focus with manual transmission for several years, then bought a new Focus in 2006, again with a manual transmission because the automatic could not be towed 4 down. In 2012 Ford came out with a automatic transmission in the Focus that could be towed 4 down. We bought a 2014 Focus with automatic transmission that can also to towed 4 down. I'm not going to say the 2014 is a hassle to get ready to tow, but there are other cars out there that are much easier to hook up and go with. Do a search on towing a 2012 to 2014 Ford Focus 4 down to learn more.
  • It's not that the transmission gets messed up, it is that gets destroyed in as little as a few miles. And don't just think broken, think "explodes in flames."

Unless you have three pedals on the floor, and have to do every gear change yourself, you have an automatic transmission, and assuming @deereone is correct, and you have an automatic transmission, your only option would be to put the car on a trailer so all 4 wheels are off the ground as you tow it.

I don't know anything about cars. Do automatic cars have standard transmissions? Or manuals? O_O

    Thank you!
