Never push on a check valve with anything unless there is no pressure behind it. Drain all pressure, push the check valve, then start the pump for a few seconds or open a tap slightly. Do not let pressure build up.
If you push on a check valve when it's under pressure, you will blow the valve and need to replace it. Simple to do, but not necessary.
