When I set up my Equalizer. I initially set the tilt so the bars were parallel with the trailer chassis. Then set the brackets so I could slip the bars into place with very little lift above neutral with the jack. This actually worked out well as it brought the front back down to half of its 3/8" of rise without the bars and the rear back up to about 2" of sag. It tows like a champ and hitches up easily so I left it at that setting. With 1k~ lbs 5' behind the rear axle, a little sag is normal and trying to bring the front all the way back to it's unloaded height is asking a lot of the hitch and trailer tongue in my ever so humble opinion.
