And the comparison to your kids smoking pot is not the same. You are responsible for the actions of your kids; you are responsible for their teaching, punishments, and rewards. You are not responsible for the teaching, punishment, or reward for others.

Hmmm...that sounds odd.
That's like saying your kids were about to smoke pot in the garage, but you got home early and spoiled their plans. Event was stopped, but that did nothing to ultimately stop your kids from doing drugs again in the future.

Criminals that escape are likely to continue with criminal activity. Hard to be an active criminal, though, when you're in sitting in jail because you were caught.

And the crime WAS stopped BEFORE Bob tackled the guy. Doing what you can to STOP a crime is one thing - going beyond that is reckless.

In Texas you must have an agreement in place with your neighbor to use force to protect their property. If you do have such an agreement you can use lethal force if you choose.

After an incident where a well meaning neighbor spent time in jail for shooting some thieves, our street made a pact with all the residents.

That's OK toedtoes if you ever need your neighbors help I bet you don't just wish he would just call the cops. The cop aren't there to protect you or your belonging they show up after the fact to clean up the mess, sorry too late everyone needs to what they can to stop a crime.

If not Bob, definitely his daughter. She ran up and grabbed her dad's cell phone to call 911. After she grabbed the phone she kicked the perp in the head and told the news reporter she did it.

It would have been better to focus on getting the license plate number of the truck than worrying about the poor slob that was left behind.
