I only have Amazon but I download only free movies to an Ipod and then, using the HDMI cable, will then watch them on the tv.

That's good info to know, I was unaware of that feature! Luckily for me, my job provides me with a Verizon Jetpack with unlimited data and I am allowed to use it on vacation. It might be nice to have a couple fun shows saved on my computer just in case I am somewhere without internet access and can't sleep.

We also have both and find Netflix a lot easier to find something to watch. If we know what we want to watch, it is easy to find, but browsing on Amazon is not very good.

One thing I have found with some shows on Amazon is they will offer one or two seasons for free and then want you to buy the other seasons. Netflix does not have current seasons and sometimes it takes a couple seasons before they'll add new seasons.

As for movies, Netflix rarely gets new releases. Amazon gets new releases, but rarely are they free. Usually they are available to rent for 24 hours. We only have Amazon because of Prime. The nice thing about Netflix is you can turn it off from month to month.

I have both and only have Amazon because it comes with Prime membership. I've used Netflix for several years. They both work fine but it seems Netflix has more content. As noted above, Amazon will also let your "buy" or "rent" movies that would otherwise be unavailable, ie, not all the movies are free on Amazon even with Prime membership.

I agree. I did get an Amazon Fire TV for our TT. It has voice search which makes it easier. Plus I hooked up the Watch ESPN and Fox sports app so now I can watch plenty of football. I stream it through my phone as a hotspot if I have a strong enough signal. I tend to watch more Netflix shows than Amazon, FWIW. I am a Prime member for the free shipping of TT accessories more than the TV.

I have all 3 as well. Netflix overall is my goto for anything and everything random. But Amazon seems to have a greater selection of those weird documentaries and syfy type shows im currently addicted to.

Hulu is in its own category because its best used as a dvr.. so to speak. Great way to watch current shows without having to set aside a specific day/time

According to what I have read, the star ratings are a combination of the old user ratings (now discontinued) and what Netflix thinks I might like.

I have Netflix, Hulu (commercial free upgrade) and Amazon. Other than that, the rest is covered by what is over the air. Total that up and it is still way less then cable or satellite TV. That is way more TV than is healthy to absorb and there are only 24 hours in a day. Now you have everyone's take on the pros and cons of the various services, just subscribe to all of them and make a point to see how each come closest to you preferences. Discontinue after a while the services you feel you are not using. Keep in mind any trial offers that allow you to cancel without getting locked in. Netflix and Hulu can be pretty much turned on or off at will.

Star ratings on Netflix are not average audience ratings, rather they're based on an approximation of what the AI thinks you want to watch based on ratings from users with similar viewing habits. Setting stars on Netflix isn't intended to share your rating of the content with anyone else, it's a tool for training the AI to recommend more relevant content.
