Yes, the connection from the trailer to the truck was performed incorrectly. Apparently, when the draw bar was lowered onto the ball, it did not lower far enough (I'm assuming), and the lock was snapped shut (over the top half of the ball), and my padlock was placed through the locking hole. When I cornered, the trailer fell off of the ball. My wife was following and said there were flames (and sparks) coming from underneath the trailer.
What a mess.
