So let me see if I got this right. Most people can hold a conversation with other passengers in the car while they're driving. But somehow if they are using a hands free phone they are now distracted and can't hold a conversation while driving anymore?
Read the scientific research out there...
Unfortunately, too many "studies" are performed in a manner intended to yield "desired" results. Surprisingly, they usually do ;)
"I have been using cell phones constantly for the past 25 years and have never had a single accident while on the phone" - Something I heard someone say. How does the research account for these people?
Furthermore, with the prevalence of phones everywhere and their constant presence in our daily lives, it is impossible in MOST accidents to distinguish between the "presence of a phone/usage" and the phone usage being the CAUSE.
Coincidence is not causality. Learn that simple truth and you'll see studies and research in a whole new way and be more resistant to be fooled by slight of hand reports.
Old way of saying it: Don't believe everything you read.
Other truths:
Anecdotal is not a predictor.
Odds and chances do not guarantee outcomes (It is actually possible to roll the same number on a pair of dice more than 3 times in a row!).
Data and conclusions often have multiple options. aka SPIN.
Did you know SHOES are the leading cause of traffic accidents? Studies have proven that nearly ALL VEHICLE ACCIDENTS have involved drivers wearing shoes. Time to outlaw SHOES while driving :R
