new honda eu2000 rough idle

I have 2 Honda's (2000iu's) and had the same ideling issues. I fixed the issue by using the lowest octane gas and adding marine stabile to cut the octane levels down farther. This worked perfect and now have zero issues. Hope this works for any of you using Hondas!

The Honda outfit that told you that they idle and run rough is blowing smoke. That is not true. Look at the tech section on this site where you will find a really well done article on cleaning the carburetor on a eu2000. New or not yours has a dirty carb (main jet probably partially restricted). Find a Honda shop that'll help you or read that article and clean the carb. Even new stuff can set around long enough for fuel to sour and gum things up.

The gas that was put in was new. The dealership filled it first off and it has done it from day one. Ive taken it back to them again. Another thing i have noticed itbseems to puff a tiny bit of whiteish maby a tiny bit blue smoke when it fires up. Does it wheather its been moved or not. Has anyone heard of the valves be over tightend from the factory? Im just stumped on this. The dealor doesent seem to know much at this point either.

id describe it like a slow surge/pulse sound from the motor. Kind of a slow "whirrrrrwhirrrrrwhirrr" sound. As opposed to a smooth motor that stays consistent with no noticeable change in tone.

To help with my understanding, could someone describe the differences they've observed between smooth and rough at idle?

My Honda is less than a year old and to me at idle it just sounds like it is not the sweet spot for the engine (primarily more vibration). But it doesn't sound like there are fuel delivery issues. I'll have to try the partial choke trick next time I fire it up.

In my case I've swapped back and forth between the high-altitude jet since last year we visited campgrounds at 7,000 and 10,000 foot elevation. And based on my pre-purchase research I found non-ethanol gasoline locally and put Sta-Bil in from day one.

How old is the gas in it?

Of course its a dealers problem. My Honda did the same thing and finally the dealer did a fix on it. That was 10 years ago and its use now is probably only a couple times a year. I treat it with Seafoam (which did the fix for the bad idle running years ago) and add Seafoam to the fuel before I shut it down for storage. Continues to run perfectly. Seafoam is truly a tune up in a can.

Mine purrs on Eco. If it needs partial choke to idle correctly then the idle circuit in the carburetor is obstructed. There was a time when the Honda's were running rough because of old fuel left from Honda.

It needs to go back to the dealer and they need to clean the carburetor again. If there is an 800 customer service number in your manual I would call it and ask them if it's supposed to be rough at idle.
