Are you going to do that? Seems to be the path of least resistance and will save you money in the long term. You don't have to take the fiver. Ride your Harley and enjoy the trip.
Seems to me like you've got a pretty good setup they way you've got it now. Just a little bump in the road due to the forwarder going OOB. From what I've read that has been a PITA for a lot of full-timers.
Regarding what the Dakotapost lady said, I wonder what happens if you put in a change of address in advance of needing a new DL? I know I have changed my address for my DL without proving residency here in CA. I guess the fact that I get the new DL in the mail is sufficient proof. Might be an issue if I were trying to renew and change address all at once.
It’s all about being able to tow the MC trailer behind the RV thru OR n WA I guess CA also.
Yup it’s a “bump” that came 5 years early. Oh well.
There is no reciprocity for length limitations OR double towing (or call it triple, if you prefer) - in states where same is prohibited.
Sooo SD plates (and/or a DL) will *NOT* negate that problem in the states you mention.
BTW / IMO - America's Mailbox is (and always has been) the best choice for SD "residence" and mail forwarding.
Good luck with your dilemma.
