New purchase - Protective Asset Protection

buying a new motorhome and am considering an extended service plan thru Protective, the XtraRide

It seems to be around for a while, so is it filled with loopholes or do many repair/dealers not want to perform work on the plan. I am buying from a dealer that is not local to me so I will have that issuer for the factory warrantee period.

First RV, Thor Hurricane 34F

I had a cruiser boat that I purchased one for and only used it once for a minor repair, so that 5k plan did not provide much more than peace of mind in the end, but I fear a motorhome is actually more prone to breakdown for some reason.

  • On www.rv-dreams.com there is a great write up on extended service plans. The owner of this site does extensive research before posting a blog topic so I find his information very complete and valuable.
  • heres my plan I banked the money and use a mobile tech for major repairs ,there cheaper,,faster, and most are smarter than the dealers mech. and your rv never leaves the drive way,and you can talk,to the guy doing the work.just doesn,t get any better.
  • You'll get many opinions but consider that extended warranties are an expensive poor gamble. I say "gamble" because you might come out ahead over the long life of the unit if you have lot's of trouble, expensive repairs, it's a warranty that really pays, etc. But why buy something that you need to have a lot of problems to collect. In the long run of averages you will come out ahead by just keeping that money, saving some more and pay cash for repairs. For any product. The cost of the warranty must exceed pay out for the companies to make money.
  • Generally speaking, I have never felt that extended warranties or service plans to be worth the money. If the value is in sleeping better at night then yes, go for it. I kinda look at it like the product will work as intended, or I shouldn't be buying that product to begin with.
