I've purchased 4 or 5 times from dealers in one state with the motorized vehicle to be registered in another state. Maybe I was lucky but in all cases there was reciprocity between the states. The dealership in the selling state collected the applicable tax and fees that were required in the titling state and paid those to the selling state. I rec'd temp tags and a copy of the paperwork giving to the selling state. When I applied for title and tags in my titling state, they took the selling state paperwork and gave me the title and tags. I presume there is a process between the states for the transfer of funds but it didn't involve me and I didn't care. I would guess most dealership finance/title folks will know very well how to do this in a way that minimizes the work and concerns of the buyer.
