Sales tax question
If I'm a SD resident and purchase. A new vehicle in NC, which state's sales tax do I pay? I believe it's SD. What say you? Thanks in advance.

Make that Illinois and Indiana.....but that's not true, at least not the whole amount. Illinois would have charged you the difference when you registered it, as their tax is higher.

Don't know about NC & SD, but when I bought my rv in Indiana they drove it about 6 miles to Illinois border for delivery; otherwise I would have paid sales taxes both to NC and Indiana.
Not all states are reciprocal so make sure before you pay so you dont have to pay in both.

Some states have reciprocal agreements with other states. In June I purchased a new Vegas in Michigan while on a trip. Paid the Michigan sales tax. Upon returning to Washington state we paid the difference between WA and MI.
So a call to both states' DMV might be prudent. Or do as I did and go online to see what you need.

You will pay the 4% and licensing fees to SD.
When I purchased my vehicles in 2007, the sales tax was 3%, IIRC. I was a California resident before that. I forget what CA tax was at the time, but I think it may have been around 9%. so, I saved quite a bit on sales tax by becoming a SD resident before that major purchase.
