Here are my estimates:

Percentage of people happily towing 8500+ pound loaded RVs with half tons - 5
Percentage of people happily towing 7000 pound loaded RVs with half tons - 95
Percentage of people towing 8500+ pound RVs with half tons that buy a 3/4+ ton pickup? 75%

The tow rating for 2015 F-150 3.5" Ecoboost with 3.55 axle is over 10,000 pounds. Now ignore tow ratings. Towing a 8' wide by 10' tall by 30' long box is not easy on any vehicle. Stability is best with 13-15% TW vs. other types of trailers that are comfortable closer to 10%. Stick closer to 6k dry. That will be 70000-7500 loaded. There are lots of options.

Looking at the trailers specs show it has a huge 3331 lb CCC with a 7530 lb dry weight.
Of course you won't pull a dry weight (empty) trailer nor will you load 3331 lbs in the trailer. Most folks may put 1000-1500 lbs in the trailer which means the trailer may weigh in the 9000 lb range = 900-1000 lb hitch weight.

2015 Ford body builder specs shows your truck has a very small 3800 lb RAWR. RAWR and FAWR is located on the same certification sticker as the 7000 GVWR.
These trucks rear axle can weigh in the 2300-2400 lb range which leaves 1400 lbs for a hitch load/the trailers hitch/people/junk we carry in the truck. IMO you need a lighter weight trailer.

Figuring how much load any truck can carry requires the owner to weigh his trucks (with all the people/hitch/gear) front and rear axles separately. That way the truck owner can do the math with actual figures.

TucsonJim's chart is one of the better RV type load charts I've seen as it considers the trucks RAWR which most GVWR based charts do not.

This is not the only piece of data but a weight limit should be stamped on the hitch with its limit. Mine is 500 without a weight distribution hitch and 1,000 with so I am limited to a 900 lb tongue weight which is also about what I have left on cargo limit so that's fine but it does limit the TT weight to around 6,500 lbs even though my tow rating is 9,500 lbs.

Unfortunately the (2) numbers you quote will not be enough information.
For the truck :
Payload (on tire loading sticker)
Hitch rating (on hitch)
GVWR (7000)
GCWR (download Ford Towing Guide)
Max towing as optioned (Towing Guide)

Trailer:
GVWR (10866)
UVW (unladen vehicle weight) weight of trailer as optioned / delivered, may or may not include batteries and propane.
Tongue weight, as delivered (gets convoluted here, some mfgs may provide tongue weight of a no options model, will not include batteries / propane.)

As others have stated, it frequently comes down to the payload rating of the truck with 1/2 tons. Making a WILD GUESS... fully loading to the trailer GVWR of 10866 lbs equates to a tongue weight of 1300 lbs (against payload) which likely overloads the factory hitch.
Anyway, as you appear interested in making an informed decision you will need more information about the specs and weights of the truck and trailer.

You are correct, the salesman is a liar and hubby is struck with wanderlust.

The dealer is under no legal obligation to be truthful in telling you what you can tow safely, he just wants the sale. No, the numbers don't work.
Look on the drivers side door jamb and tell us the payload capacity, I'll guess 1400# or so.

Super Crew? How many people are you hauling? Bikes? Firewood? It all goes against your payload along with the tongue weight of the trailer.

Just happen to have my little handy dandy Ford towing capacity sheet right here.
So Depending on which 145" WB Super crew you have. Your tow rating ranges from 7300lbs with a 4x4 with a GCWR of 13,300. to 9800lbs with a 4x2 with a GCWR of 15,500lb. You just need to find out WHICH 145" WB 3.5 Ecoboost, 3.55 rear, F150 you have. It should be in the manual.. And look on the door post to find your GVWR. The higher your GVWR, The higher your tow capacity.
GVWRs start at 7100, and go to 8200lb. yours we hope, is somewhere in the middle

How do you get a list? Easy. Drop by the Ford store, and tell a salesman to print you off a copy of the Technical Specifications. You will have all the information you will ever need for your truck. That is how I got mine
