I was (am) leaning toward RedJeeps suggestion. Skip the hitch for now. We plan 2 short trips with the trailer, to get familiar with it. I can always pick one up later if I decide we need it. The month of August we have booked off and we are driving from Toronto Area to the west coast and back again. Next year we will go east.
Any other thoughts on the matter?
Yeah, because your intent is to tow a full height trailer consider yourself lucky that Sorento is no longer part of your plans :E ... going up in flames may have been shocking but it's saved you a ton of future grief. ;)
With an F150 Eco now your intended TV I can't imagine why you'd go with a trailer as small as an 18BH and especially any single axle trailer :? ... you could easily pull a mid size bunk bed travel trailer with that truck! For 6 yrs I towed a triple bunk bed KZ Spree that measured 26' 9" coupler to bumper, traveled considerably with it, and never had any issues parking it on any site we'd selected or had been assigned. Of course there are shorter models than this but IMO a single axle 18' makes NO sense when you have a tow vehicle as capable as yours AND you have a family to accommodate.
Whatever you buy invest in weight distribution, preferably one that includes sway control as a function of it's design, a couple of examples being the Equal-i-zer or Blue Ox Sway Pro, both of which are available in a variety of weight classes. Even a shorter 19' travel trailer like mine can push 600 lbs of gross tongue weight once loaded and ready to camp - believe it, you want WD.
