- kknowltonExplorer IICampgrounds. We don't dry camp.
- Earl_EExplorerAnother vote for campgrounds. We've done the Walmart's and such and usually end up very unhappy...noisy, scary, whatever. We try to make the trip the journey so stop around 3-4 in the afternoon, hook up power and tv and enjoy the afternoon and evening.
- rvtenExplorerRV Park. Or a Flying J.
- Alabama_JimExplorerI do not like the idea of a rest stop. Most Walmart, Flying J, and Loves accept overnighters. My preference is look at getting a campground near the Interstate and pull in for the night.
- Nutinelse2doExplorerWe stay at Cabela's, Bass Pro Shops, or casinos. Much more comfortable than WM.
Check here for what's in route - Two_HandsExplorerWe stay overnight at an rv park/campground. We just don't think that a WalMart parking lot, or a Cracker Barrel parking lot, or a Fred Meyer parking lot is a campground. That said we once had to spend a night in a truck stop parking lot at Jake's Corner in the Yukon when we had a breakdown.
- DutchmenSportExplorerWe don't do overnight's in Wall Mart. We look for Good Sam campgrounds or KOA campgrounds. We don't mind paying for a site that has water and electric, and even sewer. When we travel, we are not in that big of a hurry. The travel is just as important as the destination. When we pick a campground, we enjoy being able to get out, walk around, take in the atmosphere, rest comfortably in place that's somewhat safe.
This is not to say we would never Wall Mart camp, but for us, the question is "Why?" We don't mind paying a few dollars for a good night sleep in peace. And sometime use the swimming pool, or amenities in the park. Much more pleasant that having a semi truck engine rumbling all night beside us.
We usually call ahead a few hours and make sure we can get a pull through. So far, in 30 years of camping, (except once), have we had to stay in a parking lot. - eichacsjExplorerWalmart - ask permission and be courteous go buy something for them offering us to do this.
We refrain from Truck stops because truckers need the space to stop, same with rest areas leave them for the truckers. - midnightsadieExplorer IIcracker barrel.
- rekoj71ExplorerMost rest stops I've seen don't allow overnight parking but some states do. If it's allowed I would use it. Truck stops can be hit or miss. They are usually loud and if they are small the truckers don't like us taking a spot they feel should be theirs. Wal-Mart is usually easy with several websites and apps that help find those that do or don't allow it and they are used to us when other businesses sometimes aren't sure what's allowed or if they would have insurance/liability issues. Churches have been good if I was visiting a member who would vouch for me, but I guess I was reluctant to ask if I didn't already know.
I usually Wal-Mart it if it's just a stop over.
