Seeing as my toad is a low to ground 2012 Scion XB, I do not like the permanently mounted ramps. I've heard they can rub/scrape the rocker panels of low profile cars. I believe the Demco Kar Kaddy has permanent ramps. So does the Stehl and most others
As far as I can find, the ACME and American are the only ones with removable ramps.
I stopped at a local Uhaul today and looked at what they use. Their model uses retractable ramps, and a kingpin type of system. If I understand it correctly, which I may not, it appears that the tongue turns/swivels on kingpin while the platform upon which the wheels rest is stationary
Still not sure how the American works, even after speaking with the rep. he says its just like a little red kids wagon.....tongue turns/swivels and wheels are stationary. Although I do not see a kingpin as I saw on the Uhaul models. Perhaps it is the one center bolt I have seen in pic.
