Newbie Tow Vehicle Help

Group, looking for your expert assistance. Towing weight limits are like finding the Holy Grail to a newbie. It will be my wife, daughter and myself camping, on short trips. But my wife the extra space in the slide models.

I would like to know if you feel I am within the limits of my vehicle for towing an Open Range 308, or a Vibe 312BHS is a better fit or neither, with a Dodge Ram 1500 set up as follows: (I may be missing a figure or two so let me know).

2014 Ram 1500
Trailer tow package
3.92 rear axle
GVW = 5384
GVWR= 6900
GAWR FRT= 3900
GAWR REAR = 3900
GCVWR = 15650
TOW RATING 10,200

OPEN RANGE 308
UVW = 8434
TOUNGE WEIGHT = 940

OR
VIBE 3112BHS
UVW= 7611
TOUNGE WEIGHT 832

Thanks in advance for your insights, guidance and assistance.
  • Too much trailer. I think your GVW listed is your UVW (Unloaded Vehicle Weight). You got about 1500lbs of payload, and will probably have over 1000 pounds of tongue weight. That leaves you less than 500lbs for people and anything else in the truck.
