The guys will love this.
YOU will be......tense the whole trip.
Start deep breathing exercises now. ;-)
I suggest starting out with the bare minimum the first day. Treat the RV as a motel room. Then add on stuff as you go along......like food. And plan the trip to have some flexible days so you won't have to do anything unwise to "stay on schedule".
Also, I do NOT recommend going off the Interstates in a region where there are mountains. The chances of getting into a WORSE situation are great; sometimes MUCH worse.
Chattanooga, Nashville and Atlanta (especially) should be avoided during rush hours but should be done in the daylight hours.
Get the driver to agree ahead of time to STOP if the going gets tough.....like a bad rain storm for instance.
My wife won't go anywhere near my RV....due to an elephant like memory and a bad experience 40 years ago.....so I use quick and easy food; Sandwiches, paper plates, cups and plastic spoons and the microwave.
And I HAVE to ask: Why do your test run from so far away ??
You could do a similar trip right here in Florida and there are literally millions of new and used RVs to choose from.
In my opinion, if you can't get over your aversion to a used "home", you might as well forget the whole idea.
We just moved from Illinois a couple of years ago and know the route to Florida well.
