The nice thing about an RV is that if you need anything, you just stop by a store (hardware store, grocery store, walmart, ikea, etc).
The other nice thing is that RV people are helpful and if you're in an RV park someone will step up and answer questions or help with issues.
I travel with a wife and two kids under 10. It is great. Do plan on bringing some road games or activities. We don't let them stare at tablets and they are just fine for surprisingly long amounts of time. We do like to plan the road trip so that we have stops along the way -- road-side oddities, etc. Roadtrippers.com is a good way to find random stops along a route to break up the drive.
