Newby with lot of ?s

Well I plan on starting a new chapter in my life and would like advice on places to go and events. Next year my kids are moving out of state so was thinking it would be nice to travel and see our great nation. Thank you from Alaska- maybe we could trade info :)
  • Wow! You could spend the rest of your life just cruising down the west coast. :)

I'm kind of far from you but if you ever get out this way, I'll brief you on DC and Maryland.

Good luck in your travels and have fun
  • That's a big, vague request. What are your interests?

Cars? Art museums? History? Aviation? Etc., etc..

If you narrow it down a bit, we can give you better advice. There is a lot to see and do in the lower 48.

I like to use Roadside America when traveling between destinations.

What states do you want to visit first? That's a start. :)
  • Helen, Georgia for Oktoberfest, St Augustine, Florida, Key West, Florida.
  • Funny. You're from Alaska. I consider the highlight of my many years of RVing to be my trip to Alaska from Cincinnati. All the way to Fairbanks. I was even lucky enough to see Denali (Mt. McKinley) when the peak wasn't obscured by clouds. I have a friend that has a summer cottage in Cooper Landing, AK. on the Kenai Peninsula. I spent a couple of weeks staying at the cottage he owns next to his and enjoyed showers with unlimited hot water. We dined on salmon from the Copper River every night. Doesn't get much fresher than that.
  • Wow - there are so many great places to visit. Some of my favorites are Yellowstone, Glacier, Bryce, Arches, and Death Valley.
  • Are you going to be a full-timer or travel when you find a place that interests you? I was in Alaska last summer and the family wants to come back!!
  • Google "Tourism" for the various states. Many, of not all of them, will send you information about their state including places and events. You can usually order it on-line at no cost.
Responses here will vary, all dependent on the views and interests of the respondents. We are an eclectic bunch, with varying ideas on where to go and what to do. Those with children look for one thing in an RV park; those without perhaps are not interested in game rooms, recreation activities, etc.
We've been to almost all of the states and eight Canadian provinces - something different in all of them.
And if you are ever in western Nebraska, be sure to see The Tree. It's a "don't miss" attraction.
