There is another issue that has not been touched on here....
We used to do most of our travel out od season. What the campground owners call the shoulder time. This has a couple of distinct problems. One of these is that few campgrounds are open. (The fact that the few that are may be very willing to charge full season price for a slip for the night, but you don't get water, a shower, a pool, and maybe no dump.) While I can't have any objection to a man making a return on his investment, he has to also understand that I am looking at my own ROI for the entire picture.
One of the other reasons we like non-campground stops is that we are never too late coming in. I have never been groused at by someone at a rest area or other because I had to wake them up to register. When we are in travel mode, road hours is everything.
