Non electric coffee pot

On our recent trip to Alaska there were many days that we did not have power and thus had to forgo our morning coffee. We have been looking at stove top percolators since and are wondering if we should go with a stainless steel pot or glass pot and forget the aluminum ones.....

Okay -- explain to me, responders, why NOT aluminum? We have 2....we don't know where we got the first one, but the 2nd I picked up at a garage sale for $.25. :) They work FINE and the coffee is hotter. And no, they do NOT cause Alzheimers!!!!

Been there, done - Darn, I forgot what I was going to say. :B

  • Stainless! Watch what type of handle.
Many glass pots have plastic handles that do not fair well around open flame.
  • In those circumstances, you can heat water on your stove and pour it thru the grounds to make hot fresh drip coffee using your electric coffee maker.
  • I use a heavy stainless steel. By far better than other options. :B

    Check Amazon for "Copco" 8-cup $24.95 :W

We have a stainless coffee pot we love. Simple and works great. We didn't want glass due to the chance of breaking it.
  • Hi,

I would certainly avoid aluminum pots.

Have you considered an inverter? My drip pot (4 cup) uses a scant 7 amp-hours do do a brew. That could easily be made up while driving with a decent charging path from the alternator.
