Norcold circuit board multi-pin wire terminal

Sorry to be so specific, but ....

Our Norcold is working fine, and I'd like to keep it working well.

I've noticed discussions involving the installation of a cooling fan system in the refrigerator "tower", to assist in moving air across the coils more efficiently.

In reviewing the schematic, and verifying in the board, there is an open "OPTIONAL" circuit for the fan's power, right there on the multi-pin connector to the board.

The only (yeah, ONLY) problem I have is locating the wire terminals that are used in the connector.

Anyone have a good source? The terminal ends are "crimp", female, and SQUARE, measuring only 2 mm x 10 mm.

I've checked nearly every "connector" distributor, and all I keep finding are round terminals.

I'd like to use the same style to ensure the wires STAY in place. These boards aren't the most conducive to "Gerry-rigging". And it's not something I'd consider doing anyway.

  • Here is your Connector Took me about 10 seconds to find it. I'd suggest you order by phone and request USPS First Class mail. An envelope with the parts will be in your mailbox in a couple of days. I order from Digikey in MN and have received parts by mail the next day, their Midwest distribution center is in Thief River Falls, MN.
  • Really, truly- the Molex ATX power supply terminal

is what it is- I've installed dozens on the older "short pin 15 to reset" models, so you didn't have to tear the cover off.
I have old power supplies lying around, so I just removed a few from them.
  • What a trip...

Called Norcold and asked where I could get the wire terminal.......

The reply? Contact an authorized Service Dealer or Technician.

Went to a local "Norcold" sales location....

Answer? Good luck. Unless you know the EXACT part number, you'll never get anything from Norcold.

Luckily, one of the other customers standing in line is a Commercial Reefer repairman. He said the same thing: Norcold won't give up any part very easily.

BUT, if it's a Norcold circuit board, he can get the wire terminal for me.

    Things are looking better.

I just didn't want to re-invent the wheel, especially if a circuit is already assigned to a cooling fan, and all I need to do is connect to it. Right in the Norcold schematic for this model it says Fan- (Optional).
  • Terminals for a computer power supply fit perfectly- the atx motherboard connection.
  • My suggestion...call Norcold and talk to an agent (get their name). If nothing else, you can say you called and got such and such information. After that, do you have an RV shop you like? If so, go talk to the technician about doing the wiring, etc. See if they run away in horror, or snap their fingers.

You haven't provided any specific information about your particular fridge (model, product #, etc) but since this terminal is already part of the circuit board I would have thought the matching connector would be a Norcold part.
  • Don't quite understand that last sentence but if you need a connection for fan power and termination becomes a real problem, I'd suggest to install a fused lead off of the 12V feed to the circuit board. You can switch this power lead to save power or control operation in Winter situations where an additional fan might not be wanted.

If that "optional" terminal is like a siren, begging to be used, you may be able to find the termination piece here: Digikey
