We just returned prematurely from a planned six week road trip in the Great Southwest. We had transmission problems heading out of Moab Utah and limped home to the White Mountains of Arizona.
My lovely and I traveled in a 26' no slide travel trailer with two medium sized dogs as companions.
What a great trip! Someday I'd love to do longer trips. (Still working.)

Here are some observations:
5. The best campgrounds are at the end of some bad road with no hook-ups our favorite was at 9000' in the Dixie National Forest.
We've found this to be true also. Without any other information available, we'll generally pick the park with less amenities.

6. The Grand Canyon is not just a big hole in the ground. I cried when I first saw it.
Very true. It also doesn't come through in photographs or video, even really good ones.

7. Having dogs while camping is a lot of work. I just could not open the door in the morning at 5.30AM and let them out into a fenced yard while I made coffee. Had to get leashes on and walk them several times a day. They loved it!!!
Yep. Ours are always frustrated by having to be leashed while camping, but they still love it. (We don't even have a fenced yard at home - they just roam the fields and woods.)

It was hard work we came home tired and we cant wait to get the tranny fixed and head out again. It is definitely worth the effort.

Agreed!! (Fortunately, I've never had the tranny part of that though... :) )
Hopefully you can head back out soon!
