For me part of the issue is not about the gray tank but, the fresh water holding tank. My TT only has about a 25 gallon, or so, fresh water tank. (It Sucks) The small county parks I camp at don't have water hook up. I run out of fresh water long before I get the holding tanks full. Then I have to carry, and dump in, more fresh water. Depending on how many people are at the park it is sometimes easier to use the campground shower.
