Older Florida Sunpass may not work after 12/31

Saw an article in our paper this morning that Congress requires all toll roads be able to accept transponders from any state as of October 2016. To make the transition, Florida has been gradually introducing the new models and notifying people if their old ones will no longer work, with info for replacing with the new version.

If you have a Sunpass and don't know if it will still work, Google: SunPass Tag Swap.

There's a PDF flyer to click with photos and descriptions of old and new versions. If it beeps and has batteries, it is an older model.

If this has been posted before, apologies. I know a lot of Florida visitors or snowbirds buy Sun Pass transponders. We got one years before moving here.
  • They will also replace the old ones for free - I don't know if they still are doing this, but you could always go to a toll service area (or toll plaza) and pick a new one up with a credit towards the price.
