i purchased a tow vehicle with on star how many have and what is the cost? is it woth it?

First let me point out that I live in a area where crime is not a problem so I'm not worried about someone stealing my truck. The pickup I have now came with it but, the previous owner never paid for it so it was not activated. I pulled the fuse on it because I heard a story that the on star people can listen in on what you say and watch every place you go with your vehicle. That's not a big concern but, I like as much privacy as I can get (in the modern world) and so that is why I pulled the fuse.
