One reason I like RV-ing...

Austin is having the usual SXSW music/film stuff this and next week. I feel sort of like a NOLA resident come Mardi Gras where most of the area evacuates to Disney World.

Nothing like escaping the pandemonium of all the incoming college students, to peaceful boondocking.
  • I'd probably guess they will head for SXSW.

Already, a friend of mine in the area has learned the hard way to turn off all outside circuit breakers before leaving, as he found a very dilapidated school bus parked outside his place, plugged into his water and electric. I wouldn't be surprised that nearby storm drains smell of black water for the next couple weeks as well.

I bumped my homeowner's insurance up, secured my computers (all have encryption that requires both a password and a USB flash drive, and I take the USB flash drive with me), round up my external hard disks and put those in a secure location... then leave for my rig, well away from Austin. Even in cold, rainy weather, it still is a nice time.

Now you see I am from Michigan.. So my reason (This worked best a few weeks ago) can best be shown by taking most any day around 2/1 give or take a week and going to http://www.michigan.gov/mdot and then clicking on the roads and travel link in the upper left then pick a camera and take a look....

At the big piles of snow I did not shovel cause I shoveled off to where a "Big snow" is like 1/2 inch.
  • I'm hoping all the Texas spring breakers are headed for SXSW and NOT Big Bend National Park, where we are enjoying peace and quiet.
  • Exactly! Unlike some folks who keep track of fairs and festival so they can attend them, I keep track so I can avoid them. ;)
